Gallatin Level Analysis

5,700 - 6,000: May 31st 2003 Fairly big wave trains for a small volume river. Screaming left had some fun runnable holes and waves. High speed alley had a great wave train, with a big wave in the middle. Don't under estimate the section after the bridge. It is very continuos, with lots of holes and pour overs. Getting past House Rock is fairly easy. The current tends to push you into the left bank. If you don't go left there is a medium sized hole followed by a large wave. The rest of the way is filled with great wave trains. There are alot of large pour overs in the mad mile. A boat flipped in one of these the day before we ran it.
2,700 to 3,000: June 10th 2003 Upper stretch was okay. Don't under estimate the section below the bridge, it has alot of sucking holes and rocks to watch out for. The thing to watch out for is the hole right before House Rock. It is fairly big. We ran it right down the gut. I would not want to flip there. The rest of the way requires alot of manuvering through rocks and pour overs, and running plenty of small to medium holes.
2,000 - 2,400: June 17th, 19th, 20thUpper stretch becoming not so great. A good warmer upper though. Some of the pour overs are fun, like Hilarity Hole. Screaming left is not that great. High speed alley is actually still pretty fun. The hardest part for me now is the rock. The current is all going into the rock, and you have to be pretty far right just to miss the left shore. The 17th we were way to far right, and ran the top hole on the right. One tube got munched on the rock. After we went by the rock, we went up on another rock and then slid off it. The mad mile was fun but uneventful, the two foaming holes are coming out and are fun to line up and run. On the 19th we took a paddle raft through. We pretty much nailed the rock almost sideways, and then had a good run through the sucking hole to the left of the rock. The rest of the House Rock section we ran over some rocks, but nothing to exciting. The two foaming holes in the mad mile were fun. There is a rock at the bottom of the Made Mile that draws you in and we hit it full on sideways, and then just slid off. The 20th was the best run so far. Just lined my nose up against the left shore and pulled away when I needed to. We did not hit the rock, but we were a little close to the left shore when we got past the rock. The rest of the run was fun but uneventful. Just as a side note, I saw 4 boats run it Saturday the 21st, 3 cats and 1 round boat. All of them hit the rock. The second cat was way to far right, hit the rock, held on for a bit, hit the sucking hole by the rock endoed and flipped, it was pretty wild.
