Gallatin Peak attempt April 14th 2007
Started hiking at about 4:30. I was skinning up Bear basin by 6 a.m., and at the ridge between Bear and Hell roaring by 7:20.
I was making great time and new I would make it to the top. Before skiing down into Hell roaring, I poked around in the
snow and it felt a lot slabier than I trusted. After contemplating a bit I decided the mountain would be there next time,
and so I turned around and skied out. I was back to the car by about 10:00. I went home and hiked Alec up to the top of the
quad at Bridger Bowl and he skied down from there. I wanted to really appreciate why I turned around. I am 98% sure I would
have been fine, but it was not worth the risk.
