Main Salmon

Main Salmon

Well, this one is the favorite around here. I love the salmon because it has good rapids that don't bring tears to your eyes but are big enough to be fun. The rapids are spread throughout the trip. The scenery and wildlife are spectacular also.
Rebecca runs the Jet Boat Slot on the rapid known as Salmon Falls.

Allison runs the left side of Salmon Falls,
and not the jet boat slot.

Tim also runs the left side of Salmon Falls, in a 12' boat.

We saw this bear right at the rivers edge.

This bighorn was just above our camp at Boise Bar.

As with most rivers the rapids change in difficulty depending on the water level. In high water I usually watch out for Elkhorn, Chittam, Vinegar, Whiplash(a very good one to scout), and the left side of the first rapid Chittum. In medium water I pay attention to Baileys, Five Mile, Big Mallard, Elk Horn, and Chittum. In low water I worry about Salmon Falls, Elk Horn, Five Mile, Big Mallard, and Vinegar(a little bit). Split Rock is always a fun rapid, but stay right in all water levels. Welcome to the Backcountry Home Page
